Interpretation :

Erwin Messmer, organ of the St. Anton Church of Berne-Bümpliz

Erwin Messmer has first performed this work 1994 in Urtenen and Berne. He has played it again, among other places, in the Braunschweig Cathedral and the Kreuzkirche of Dresden. The excerpt of the proposed recording is taken from the CD Orgellandschaft Bümpliz, made by the firm Kadenz Multimedia (Berne). The CD can be ordered on the website http://www.studercom.ch/

Duration of the work : approximately 5 minutes

Gethsemané is written in the form of an arch, originating in the silence and returning to it. The work suggests feelings of awaiting and anguish, and then of acceptance - therefore has this title been given.
